MAGIC STORIES--our newest books for Independent Readers!

If you are a fan of our Independent Reader collections such as MONSTER STORIES and ANIMAL STORIES, you will be happy to know that the first two releases in our new MAGIC STORIES collection come out today!

Ages 6 and up
Retold by Liz Flannagan
Illustrated by Valeria Docampo
$7.99 each

Each series in our Independent Reader collection will eventually have six books.  So, MONSTER STORIES is complete!  Although the books are numbered, they do not need to be read in any particular order.  These Independent Readers are the perfect step up for readers moving from picture books to chapter books. There is enough text to challenge them but also enough illustrations to keep them engaged.

STARLIGHT GREY is a story from Russia about a young man named Ivan who is rewarded with a stallion named Starlight Grey after keeping vigil at his father's graveside.  Ivan must keep the horse a secret from his two greedy brothers.  When the Russian king challenges the young men in the land to win the hand of his daughter, Ivan enlists the help of STARLIGHT GREY to help him succeed.

CARA AND THE WIZARD is a story from Ireland.  Cara and Molly are sisters who are incredibly close. When Molly disappears one day, Cara decides to find her. Her mother and father give her gifts to help her on her journey. Armed with those gifts and her own kindness and courage, Cara must defeat a wolf and a wizard to find her beloved sister.

Barefoot Books pays so much attention to detail which is one of the reasons why I love their books so much.  Take a look at the contents page of STARLIGHT GREY:

Since these books are aimed at emerging readers, the contents page provides visual clues as to what happens in each chapter. These illustrations can be found again at the start of each chapter to help the reader draw the connection between the contents page and the chapter.  Brilliant!

I am so excited to see which stories come next in this series!   Stay tuned because there are some Princess Stories in the works that will put the Disney princesses to shame!
